Why The Hate U Give Movie is So Important
Remember way back when I reviewed The Hate U Give?
While I believed the book was important, I had many mixed feelings about it. The book had some problematic moments in it, a lot of those moments were justifiable (example, Starr being wary of her boyfriend because he's white), but I really felt like it took so much away from the main message of the book.
Last Saturday I went and watched the movie with my mom and it absolutely blew me away.
Even before I watched the movie I was hyped for it, The Hate U Give book was amazing, although I personally didn't love all of the content and I felt like it hindered itself in a few places (hence the three star rating), but I couldn't wait to see what the movie would accomplish.
I wasn't disappointed.

Not only was the movie beautiful and artfully pulled off, but the message was so strong and the heart of the book and the story truly shown through.
I loved how the movie really polished the book, and instead of having an angry tone, it brought in a message of unity in the end.
Don't get me wrong--the emotions were raw and strong, one could really see and sense the tension, the anger, and hurt, but the movie really helped empathize the book's point even more. And it did it in a way that I truly believe will touch the hearts of most people.
Films like this are so powerful and eye-opening, and I'm glad that such a great book as The Hate U Give got the movie it needed.

The movie deals with so many important issues, and overall the perspective and voice of this movie is something I am glad will be heard and seen in theaters.
The most important message in this movie was that hatred is constantly passed down through fear, as the movie's and the book's main point and the source of the title goes:
THUG LIFE — The Hate U Give Little Infants F***s Everybody.
The way they showed this in the movie was astounding and eye-opening, and I cannot stress how true and important it is to realize this.
The movie is about standing together, knowing your rights, and standing up for what you believe in.
Many people don't want to believe that stuff like this is a reality for so many people, but it is, and this movie really reflects the struggles that so many people face, such as racial bias and the huge drug problem in so many neighborhoods.
I loved how they ended this movie, and in the end I thought that it was pulled off better than the book, simply because I think it really helps people understand this side and view.
While the book was also eye-opening, it was harsher in some ways with its message, so I am glad the movie went with a more subtle but a still powerful way of showing the injustice so many people face.
The Hate U Give is so important because it really helps people understand the cause and effect of fear and hate. It tackles so many racial issues in such a graceful way. The whole movie has so much heart and power in it, and I applaud it.
It's truly a movie worth seeing, it will make everyone think. This movie along with the book will change hearts and mindsets. Overall, it's such a voice and side of the story that needs to be heard and it's worth seeing.
Have you seen the movie?
What did you think?
Do you think the movie was better than the book or that the book was better?
Happy Writing,
